The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has officially confirmed the payment dates for the COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant for February 2026. The agency has scheduled payment processing for beneficiaries from 20 February to 25 February 2026. All approved recipients of the temporary R370 SRD grant, which helps financially struggling individuals, can receive their benefits during this payment window.
SASSA instructed beneficiaries to remain at home until their designated payment time because payment procedures distribute funds throughout the day to limit overcrowding at pay points.
Who Qualifies for the COVID-19 SRD Grant
The SRD grant provides financial assistance to unemployed people who do not receive social grants or income support. Applicants need to meet three requirements which include being between 18 and 59 years old while residing in South Africa with no means to support themselves. South African citizens and permanent residents plus refugees and asylum seekers and holders of special permits who are registered in government systems can apply for this program.
All applicants must demonstrate active job searching and potential educational advancement while living outside government-funded facilities.
Importance of Checking Payment Status
SASSA urges beneficiaries to check their payment status through official channels before going to banks and retail stores. The system processes payments through electronic methods but delays happen when personal information is wrong or banking problems exist or verification procedures need to be completed. The monitoring process enables recipients to track their progress and avoid unneeded trips and extended waiting periods.
