Welcome to Knysna, the place of huge trees, forests and artists at the heart of the Garden Route.

Situated between the impressive Outeniqua Mountains and the sea, Knysna is surrounded by both indigenous forests and plantations.

The 21 ha lagoon opens into the sea between the well-known Knysna Heads, which protect it from the sea. This tranquil water is home to many fish species, including the Knysna Sea Horse and the famous Knysna Oysters.

Many hiking trails lead from Knysna into the forests. By following these trails, one can experience nature at its fullest. You will see the majestic, huge Yellow wood trees and who knows, possibly come across a well-known Knysna Loerie or even some of the Knysna Elephants. These elephants represent the most southerly distribution of the African Elephant population.

Many artists have made Knysna their home. Here you can find painters, sculptors and a magnitude of different arts and craft stores. You also dont need to search far for them. Most of them are conveniently situated in the main street of the town. You should however be prepared to spend a lot of time in Knysna. You are not going to browse through all the interesting little shops in only a couple of minutes. Be thus prepared to stay over.
