Kgalagadi Transfrontier ParkThis desert game park, tucked away between Namibia and Botswana, is aptly named as it gives the visitor the opportunity to experience the Kalahari desert at its best. This park now cross international borders. This was made possible by the co-operation between the South African and Botswana conservation authorities. Some of the animals that can be seen here are the Gemsbok (Orix Gazelle), Springbok, Blue Wildebeest, Red Hartebeest, Eland and of course the famous black manned Kalahari Lion. There are 58 mammal, 55 reptile, countless insect and many plant species in the park. The bird species include 20 species of large raptors while all birds include as many as 260 species. With this abundance of animals, this is truly the last unspoiled eco-systems remaining in the world. This park will let you experience Africa as it was many many years ago. The plains team with animals, the night skies are beautiful with more stars than you have ever seen. Here you will experience the extremes in climates that only a desert landscape can offer you. Where to stay: The park is open all year round and has three rest camps. Twee Rivieren is the main camp and offers an a la carte restaurant, curio shop, swimming pool and landing strip for small aircraft. The other two rest camps, Nossob and Mata Mata are two far-flung, distant oases where you will not find the luxuries offered by other game parks. Here you will experience Africa at its best. All three rest camps has fully furnished cottages, chalets and huts as well as caravan and camping sites. |
